When these licences expire
DMV facility licences always expire at the end of the month shown on the record.
What an expired licence means, and what it does not
For a repair shop it means something specific: under New York Vehicle & Traffic Law, Article 12-A — the Motor Vehicle Repair Shop Registration Act, a shop without a currently valid registration may not display the sign of an official repair shop. The licence is not paperwork — it is the permission.
But this file is published annually. A licence shown as expired here had expired when the file was published, and may have been renewed since; a licence shown as current was current then. For the position today, the Department’s own facility lookup is live and ours is not. We would rather say that plainly than let it be discovered.
14,001 expired licences are loaded and searchable. The Department keeps facilities whose licences expired less than six years ago; beyond that they leave the file entirely.
