The pages of this site are free and will stay free : an official fact belongs to no one. What is sold here is the compilation work — extracting the New York DMV facility register, reconciling it, dating it, and delivering it in a usable form.
Why a snapshot ages differently here
The Department publishes this file annually. That sounds like a slow-moving register, and it is the opposite: between publications, licences lapse and are renewed with nothing to show for it, so the gap between the file and reality widens for a whole year and then closes at once.
What has value is therefore not the snapshot but the difference between publications — which facilities gained a licence, which lost one, which changed hands. That is the part nobody keeps, because the Department republishes over the top.
What is in it
Every field below is measured on the delivered rows, not estimated. A ⚠️ marks a column the source does not contain — that is the part you cannot get by downloading the file yourself.
| Field | Description | Filled |
|---|---|---|
facility | DMV facility number | 100.0 % |
licence_code | The three-letter code, verbatim | 100.0 % |
licensed_as | ⚠️ The code resolved to the Department's own wording — 21 codes, mapped from the published field definition | 100.0 % |
key | ⚠️ facility + code — the real key, because one facility holds several licences | 100.0 % |
name | ⚠️ Business name, rejoined from the source's two 20-character columns and case-normalised | 100.0 % |
owner | ⚠️ Owner name, rejoined from its two columns | 100.0 % |
street | Street address | 100.0 % |
city | ⚠️ Town, case-normalised | 100.0 % |
county | ⚠️ County code resolved to the full county name, checked against the 62 counties for prefix collisions | 100.0 % |
current | ⚠️ 1 where the licence had not expired at publication | 100.0 % |
first_issued | ⚠️ ISO date, normalised from MM/DD/YYYY | 100.0 % |
expires | ⚠️ ISO date, normalised | 100.0 % |
The 9 fields marked ⚠️ do not exist in the source : we add them — a join, a normalisation, or a reconstructed history. That is the part a buyer cannot reproduce by downloading the official file.
⚠️ Two fields of the source are deliberately absent from the pages of this site, though they are in the data we deliver: the owner’s name, which is a natural person’s name, appears only on an individual result. And georeference is not carried at all — this site answers a question about licences, not a map, and a coordinate pair adds nothing to it.
What it costs
- Change feed — USD 300 / monthOr USD 3 000 a year. At every collection, what came in, went out or changed since the previous one. This is the part that does not age.
- One slice — USD 90 / monthThe feed restricted to a single county, for those who do not need the rest.
- Full snapshot — USD 4 000, onceThe state of the register on the day of delivery, every field included. Listed last on purpose : a snapshot ages.
